What are the unique features of the GP500C?
The GP500C communication controller is unique in a way that it is more than just a simple transceiver. The GP500C has an IEEE802.15.4 MAC layer built in hardware which means data packets can be autonomously sent and received without a microcontroller having to be active. Whereas in typical designs you need to add the active current consumption of the MCU to the RX-on current of the transceiver when in receive mode, a GP500C based design only has to power the GP500C. This makes GP500C based designs suitable to be powered by simple coin-cell batteries or even energy-harvesters (e.g. solar cell).
Other unique features of the GP500C include a hardware event scheduler, antenna diversity, packet-in-packet reception, and a lower total bill-of-material while still being standards compliant.
