Can I use the microcontroller inside the module for my custom embedded application?
Yes, it is possible to use the microcontroller of the module not only for the communication stack, but also for your custom application. The PeakNet Z communication stack (in program flash) itself is about 94 kByte for a coordinator, and 96 kByte for a router. An end-device uses 85 kByte program flash. The PeakNet LPR communication stack uses 97 kByte for a coordinator, and 103 kByte for a router. In ‘LPR’ there are no end-devices. The microcontroller inside the CM-09 module has a total of 128kByte program flash so there is still some program flash available.
The modules also have internal SRAM available for the applications. On routers and end-devices, there is about 1kByte SRAM available for the application. On a coordinator, this is 10kByte.
GreenPeak modules also have the option to connect serially to a second processor (another microcontroller or even a PC). The application inside the second microcontroller can then access the entire GreenPeak API using a set of serial commands.
